Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the long-awaited metro rail services on Wednesday (December 28). The country entered an era of the urban transportation system with the inauguration and introduction of a faster mode of the passenger train and the first-ever electric train to operate from Uttara to Agargaon. People of Dhaka city have a growing interest in the Metrorail ticket fares.
Sales of Metro rail tickets will begin on December 29. People can use metro rail passes/tickets to travel from one station to another. Dhaka Mass Transit Communication Limited (DMTCL) plans to sell ‘Single Journey Tickets’ and ‘MRT Passes’ for the country’s first metro rail.
The Passengers who purchase a single-use card at the station must return it after use. Tickets will be available through Vending machines and booths as well.
Anyone willing to use the card more than once can do so for ten years if he/she purchases the ‘MRT Pass’ card. However, for this card, one must register and pay Tk 500. (Tk 200 for the card and 300 for the usable balance). . Each passenger can recharge the card for up to Tk 10,000. By returning the card, the passenger would receive the money back.
According to metro rail sources, the metro rail will initially run from Uttara North (Diabari) station to Agargaon.
After one month or so, the Metrorail will have stoppages at different stations between Uttara North and Agargaon station in the first phase. DMTCL already fixed fares for the Metrorail journey. The Metrorail fares are as follows:
